Mandi Board market fee collection on rise

Moga, Nov 21 (UNI) As a result of the special steps taken by the Punjab Mandi Board to check market fee evasion, there has been a Rs 33.24 crore increase in market fee in the first seven months of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

In the last fiscal, the collection of market fee was Rs 278.62 crore in the first seven months and this year it was Rs 311.86 crore till October last, Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said here today.

He claimed that this was the result of the special efforts taken to check fee evasion. Special teams had been formed to check evasion in the mandis of Punjab, he added.

Regarding paddy arrival, Mr Lakhowal said till November 19, about 140.92 lakh tonnes had arrived in the mandis as compared to the total arrival of 134.28 lakh tonnes in the last season.
