Kaisika Dwadasi in 118 Dalitwadas in AP

Tirupati, Aug 12 (UNI) To spread the message of social equality,the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) conducted 'Kaisika Dwadasi' festival at 118 Dalitwadas in the state apart from the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala today.

The festival was conducted through the TTD-run Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad.

In his address at the Tummalagunta Dalitwada, near here, TTD Chairman B Karunakara Reddy said the aim was to inform the society on the need to eradicate caste barriers in the society.

Though the Vedas had not mentioned about casteism and untouchability, people of those days practised them out of selfishness and to show their supremacy, divided the society into castes and sub-castes.

TTD EO K Ramanachary said the devasthanams was contemplating to spread the God's message and blessings equally to all the people in the society.

Earlier, the Ugra Srinivasa Murthy was taken out in a procession around the Dalitawada and pujas conducted. It was followed by Sri Venkateswara Homam.

At Tirumala temple, the processional deity of Ugra SrinivasaMurthy and his consorts were taken out in procession around the four mada streets in connection with the Kaisika Dwadasi in the morning.
