Inter-state gang arrested

Hubli, Nov 21 (UNI) Police have arrested four members of an inter-state gang and recovered eight cellphones, two titan watches, two motorcycles and cash totalling over Rs eight lakh.

Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani told reporters here the gang duped a local businessman of Rs 22.5 lakh promising to give five kg of gold in exchange of cash.

After collecting the cash from the businessman, they put it in a bag and handed over a similar bag containing paper bundles to him, promising to return with the gold in ten minutes.

When they did not return even after half-an-hour, the businessman opened the bag and found that he was cheated.

A team of policemen arrested four members of the gang, hailing from Belgaum, Mangalore and Bagalkot districts. The gang carried out similar tricks in Maharashtra also. They were remanded to judicial custody, Mr Nadamani said.
