Tirupati, Nov 21 (UNI) To create social awareness among farmers on horticulture farming, a motorcycle rally titled 'Horticultural Revolutionary Flame' which started from Kanniyakumari on November 18, arrived here today.
The rally comprising 70 members was flagged off in the presence of Noted Agriculture Scientist, M S Swaminathan.
The rally from Kanniyakumari to New Delhi has passed Tamil Nadu.
It would cover Karnataka via Anantapur District from where it would proceed to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP and Haryana.
Talking to the media, All India South Indian Organiser Secretary and Republic Party of India National Secretary V P Ramaiah said the revolution in horticulture brought about by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had changed drought-prone areas in to gardens of fruit in Maharashtra where mangoes were grown.
The objective was to strengthen the horticulture economy. After reaching New Delhi on December 11, the 'Flame of Horticulture' will be presented to President Pratibha Patil in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
