Chandigarh, Nov 21 (UNI) Several reputed companies have applied for contract farming of barley crop in Haryana.
Stating this here today, Chief Administrator of Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board Ram Niwas said contract farming of this crop would soon begin as per the agreement of the contract.
The state government, he said, would ensure that the interests of the farmers were safeguarded in the contract farming system.
Mr Niwas said the system of contract farming had been launched under the Market Act to increase the cultivation of fruits and vegetables besides other crops.
The big companies would provide better quantity of fertilisers, seeds and insecticides, besides new techniques of cultivation to the farmers under the Act which would not only increase the yield of the crop but would also improve the quality of produce.
These companies would procure the crop from the farmers at high rates.
