Chennai, Nov 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged custodial death of a PMK functionary and the subsequent violent incidents that culminated in a police lathicharge at Kullanchavady in Cuddalore district.
An official release here yesterday said the probe would be conducted by retired Madras High Court Judge M S Janardhanam.
The probe would also go through the reasons for the death of PMK functionary Ramalingam, who was brought to the police station on November 19 night following an altercation with the bus crew, and also find out whether the police were justified in resorting to a lathicharge, the release said.
The incident took an ugly turn yesterday, when Ramalingam's body was found outside the police station and the locals alleged that he died in the police custody.
As a large number of people gathered at the police station and demanded action against them, the police resorted to lathicharge. The enraged mob also pelted stones at the buses damaging few of them.
