Kozhikode, Nov 21 (UNI) An Air India (AI) flight, carrying 215 Haj pilgrims, today took off from Karippur International Airport near here to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
Haj Committee sources said Kerala Local Self Governance Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty flagged off the first flight, comprising devotees from the State Haj Committee quota.
Altogther, 8556 pilgrims, including three children, 295 from the nearby Lakshwadweep Island, 295 from Central Quota and 12 from Mahe in the Union Territory of Puducherry, would proceed to the Holy City of Mecca from the official quota this year.
As per the schedule announced by the AI, they would be transported to Jeddah in 31 flights during the season.
The last flight with pilgrims would leave on December 6, sources added.
