Buta against reservation on economic grounds

Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 21 (UNI) Former Union Home Minister and Chairman of SC, ST Commission, Buta Singh today outrightly rejected UP Chief Minister Mayawati's views on giving reservation to the economically weaker section of society irrespective of caste. " Till the ghost of casteism was not wiped out from society, till then the reservation should be on caste ground", he said while talking to mediapersons at Bassi Pathana.

He said that the SC and ST sections of society still needed reservation for their upliftment as they are living in pitiable conditions. The demand of reservation on economic ground and for OBCs was not justified, he said without naming Ms Mayawati.

Regarding the concept of social engineering launched by Ms Mayawati, he said that it was nothing but "political engineering".
