Srinagar, Nov 20 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the youth constitute a vital and vibrant human resource and they have a right and an obligation to participate actively in the political and economic development of the troubled state.
Addressing a convention of the PDP youth wing from Anantnag here, he said while the turmoil has adversely affected all the spheres of society in the state, the youth became its specific target as the violence has consumed almost the entire young generation.
Mr Sayeed said the society could not afford to lose more youth now and measures have to be taken to safeguard their future. ''The need, therefore, is not only to safeguard the precious lives of the youth but create increasing opportunities for them to develop their personality and functional capability and make them economically productive and socially useful,'' he added.
The PDP patron said such opportunities have to be created on a large scale to cover a wide spectrum of areas of human endeavour.
''Despite passing through the darkest era of our history, the main source of the state's confidence is the substantial potential of building upon its human resource. Even in most difficult times, our young boys and girls are doing us proud in whatever field they take a plunge,'' he added.
