State Govts. give 186 proposals for new irrigation projects

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) The Water Resources Ministry has received 186 proposals for new irrigation projects from various states out of which 114 are under different stages of appraisal, Minister of State for Water Resources Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav said in Rajya Sabha today.

The remaining 72 projects have been techno-economically accepted by the Advisory Committee on Irrigation, Flood Control and Multi-Purpose Projects of the Ministry, Mr Yadav said in a written reply.

Of the 186 proposals, 103 are for major projects and 83 medium while out of the 114, 62 are major and 52 medium.

The remaining 72 proposals include 41 for major and 31 for medium.

The Minister said the time taken for clearance/approval of the project proposals depends upon the promptness with which state governments arrange compliance to the observations of the CWC/Technical Advisory Committee/ Planning Commission.

Out of the 186, Maharashtra has given the highest number (47) of project proposals followed by Orissa (20) and Andhra Pradesh (19).
