Lucknow, Nov 20(UNI) Samajwadi Party has demanded a CB-CID probe and lodging of cases against policemen involved in the killing of eight people in fake encounter by police in Basti district during recent past.
The party has also submitted a memorandum to Governor T V Rajeswar in this connection this evening.
Party's working president Shivpal Singh Yadav told mediapersons here that the government should also announce an ex-gratia payment of Rs ten lakh each for the families of the deceased.
The party in its memorandum to the Governor said that innocent people were killed in the name of encounter.
A probe committee of the party was sent to Basti recently to find out the real facts in the encounters taken place from July last.
The memorandum also criticised the Basti police for torturing district SP president Rambriksh Yadav and Brajkishore who are in jail at present.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Lok Dal state women wing president Neeta Tripathi and her husband and Nationalist Congress Party vice president Yogesh Tripathi today joined the Samajwadi Party.
Mr Tripathi, who hails from Rae Bareli, could be the party candidate from Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha polls.
