Rs 25 crore cricket stadium in Jammu soon: Farooq

Jammu, Nov 20 (UNI) Assuring to promote and develop cricketing infrastructure, president Jammu and Kashmir cricket association (JKCA) Dr Farooq Abdullah said that Rs 25 crore stadium is going to be constructed exclusively for cricket here soon.

Speaking on the grounds after the prize distribution ceremony of inter-college cricket tournament here last evening, the former chief minister, who is also a member of parliament (MP), said that cricket here is being suffered due to lack of infrastructure.

''Jammu and Kashmir has no dearth of talent in all the age groups but cricketers here are required to be groomed, adding Dr Abdullah said that JKCA has decided to catch young talent and they will be trained and brought up at the cricket stadium, which will soon be handed over to the cricketers in Jammu.

Dr Abdullah further said that each club affiliated with JKCA has been sanctioned Rs 50,000 each to promote cricket through tournaments at all district levels in the state and if they fail to deliver, they will be answerable and the amount given to them have to be returned back to the JKCA.

Admitting internal politics within Jammu and Kashmir and cricket association (JKCA), the president said, ''politics exists everywhere but JKCA is here to boost cricketers and groom cricket in the state, adding the JKCA chief said that cricket tournament and a financial package will be announced soon for the budding cricketers and the selected talent will be trained under the guidance of experienced coach.
