Mohali, Nov 20 (UNI) The support price of sugarcane for the current crushing season in Punjab would be fixed by the Cabinet in its next meeting, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stated here today.
" As the crushing season has already started, we will fix the price after a discussion in the Cabinet", Mr Badal said while interacting with mediapersons.
The issue of the revision of minimum wages of labourers as promised in the SAD-BJP election manifesto would also be taken up soon by the Cabinet, he added. The Cabinet will discuss this issue after the Labour department brings the proposal for its consideration as the government was fully aware that the last revision of minimum wages took place in 2001, he pointed out.
Regarding the relaxation in the norms of procurement of paddy, Mr Badal said that he had already taken up this issue with the Union Minister of Agriculture Sharad Pawar and would soon meet him in this regard.
Asked about the challenge posed by the multi-national companies to the state cooperatives, he said that it is an era of competition and the cooperatives would have to strive hard to compete with the MNCs by improving their marketing network and quality of products.
