Panel to oversee Food Security Mission activities

Chandigarh Nov 20 (UNI) The Haryana government has constituted a State Food Security Mission Executive Committee to oversee the activities of the National Food Security Mission under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Haryana.

Stating this here today, an official spokesman said Financial Commissioners and Principal Secretaries, Departments of Agriculture, Irrigation, Power, Cooperation, Vice Chancellor, CCS HAU, Hisar, Director, Directorate of Wheat Research, Karnal, Lead Bank Officer had been nominated as members of this committee. The State Mission Director would be the Member Secretary.

He said the committee would review and approve State Annual Action Plans prepared under National Food Security Mission.

It would also review the progress of National Food Security Mission and provide feedback besides giving directions for effective implementation of the Mission programme.

It would also facilitate greater involvement of the private sector in providing inputs, technical support, agro-processing and marketing services to farmers.

The Committee would also encourage Credit Lending Institutions to increase the availability of capital to poor and marginal farmers, especially Scheduled caste and women Farmers .

It would also encourage each line department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Zonal Research Station to provide feedback and input into their respective Research and Extension Programmes.
