One killed, tragedy averted, blasts rock Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 20 (UNI) One person was killed while a major tragedy averted even as militants triggered two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) across the Kashmir valley since yesterday evening, police said today.

Police recovered the bullet-ridden body of Manzoor Ahmad Wani, a baker, from the orchards of Yamrach village in south Kashmir's Kulgam district today.

The deceased was abducted from his house by some unidentified gunmen yesterday, police said.

They said militants detonated a powerful IED blast in an open field near Shahabad village in Tral area today when a patrolling party of the CRPF's 180 battalion was passing through the area.

But, there was no reports of any damage in the explosion.

An explosive device went off near Pohru Bridge at Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara last night without causing any harm, police said.

A joint patrol party of security forces and police detected a powerful landmine planted by militants to target troops at Shahpora, Wathora. The bomb disposal squad later sealed the entire area and defused the landmine.
