Bangalore, Nov 20 (UNI) City Crime Branch sleuths have nabbed a nine members of an inter-State gang and recovered stolen properties worth more than Rs 1.5 Crore, including Rs 30 lakhs cash, Commissioner of Police Neelam Achutha Rao said today.
Talking to presspersons here, he said that the gang were involved in more than seven cases and had created terror for night travelers.
The arrested were part of a 13 member gang and police are on the look out for the remaining culprits.
The gang members waylaid four wheelers in the outskirts of the city and attack the driver and other passenger before robbing Laptops, mobile phones, cash jewellery besides vehicle. They also used to hire vehicles from traveling agents and after traveling some distance severely injure the driver and steal the car.
Mr Rao said that with increase in night robbery in the outskirts of the city, a special team was formed under direct supervision of Joint Commissioner of Police Gopal B Hosur and DCP (Crime) B R Ravikanthegowda, who along with their teams in Mysore, Hunsur, Kodagu where similar type of crimes were committed, succeeded in nabbing the culprits on HAL-Yamalur road in the outskirts of the city while preparing to commit a dacoity..
Mr Hosur said that of the arrested the kingpin Manjunath was a BA graduate, four have studied upto Pre-University and others claimed to have been working in a travel agency.
He said that the gang had been operating since last two years and they used to sell the stolen vehicles in Mumbai, Tamil Nadu and other States.
The properties recovered from the arrested included lethal weapons including three button knives, one knife, chilli powder, rope, one Tata Indica, one Hero Honda Motor Cycle, One Pulsar Motor Cycle, three Laptops, 608 mobile phones and Rs 30 lakhs cash.
