National weight lifting championship in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 20 (UNI) The 44th Men and 20th Women Junior National Weightlifting and the 20th junior boys and girls championship will begin at Imphal from Nov 22.

About 550 weight lifters from 28 states will take part in the tournament, State Sports minister, N Biren said.

He said the Manipur Weightlifting Association will organize the championship.

He further said in view of the fluid law and order situation large numbers of security personnel will be pressed into service.

'' In spite of the deteriorating law and order situation, frequent bandhs and blockades, the sports movement was never disturbed and more than 1500 youths were undergoing training at the Khuman Lampak sports complex,'' the minister added.

About Rs 15 lakhs will be spent and the state government will extend all possible help, he said.

All the events will be completed by November 28.
