New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today said that in the present scenario of journalism, there is very limited freedom of expression and journalists have to work according to the guidelines of the management of the newspapers.

He said ''journalists should get the freedom of expression so that they can bring out the truth for giving new direction to the society and nation as a whole''.

Speaking at a function after releasing the Hindi daily 'Aaj Samaj' published by Good Morning India Media Private Limited here, Mr Dasmunsi said it was very essential that journalists should be given the freedom of expression as it has also been stated in the Article 19 of the Indian constitution.

On the occasion, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said ''newspapers are the voice of the common man and in today's world it plays a significant role in our society and is the easiest medium to create awareness and disseminate the information''.

Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru also strongly advocated the freedom of press, he added.

The Chief Minister said during the freedom struggle the press played an important role and gave the Indian freedom struggle a new height. In the present scenario, the media is market driven and it has resulted in the downfall of the moral values in the field of journalism.

Mr Hooda stressed that journalist should make all possible efforts to bring out the truth for the welfare of our society in an effective manner.

Speaking on the occasion, AICC General Secretary Janardhan Diwedi said politics and journalism are running parallel in the present times and journalist should work hard to provide a new dimension to the society.

Mr Dwivedi said newspapers neither have to preach nor favour anyone.
