New York, Nov 20: Indian Ambassador to US, Ronen Sen, has said the Indo-US nuclear deal will play a significant role in the country's security and bolster power situation in India. Energy plays a critical role in a nation's overall development and India has a growing demand for that, the Indian ambassador said yesterday.
Nuclear energy was important for India, which was working on various sources like clean coal technology, energy efficiency and alternative sources of energy, Mr Sen said.
On bilateral trade, he said it is a ''dramatic transformation'' from the situation in the early 1990s. The current bilateral trade was estimated to be more than 30 billion dollars.
The ambassador noted that India was one of the key destinations for US exports and Indian investment in America was also rising fast.
Mr Sen said, ''Indian investments in the United States were double that of US investments in India last year. I mention this because there is a lot of talk of outsourcing, which misses the main point that its traffic is in both directions and this relationship is of mutual benefit.'' Combating terrorism and narcotics were two other areas in which both the nations were cooperating, the envoy added.
