Ill-treated wives accuse cops of being partial
Akola, Nov 20 (UNI) As many as 22 women, who have accused their husbands of ill-treating them, have petitioned the Women's Grievance Redressal Centre (WGRC) here alleging that the police is impervious to their problems.
These women had been summoned to the WGRC Saturday last for hearing their problems. However, the district superintendent did not turn up and the women were asked to come later on varied dates.
The WGRC aims at bringing about a reconciliation between the husband and the wife. However, if efforts at reconciliation fail then the centre can recommend the registration of a case against the husband.
Dr Ranjana Wankhade, a spokesperson for the women, alleged that the police, instead of helping the women, coerce them into returning back to their in-laws house.
