46 dam-affected villages left out in survey: NBA
Bhopal, Nov 20 (UNI) The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) has handed over to the Grievances Redressal Authority (GRA) evidence related to 2,200 houses in 46 villages in Khandawa and Dewas districts being deliberately left out during a survey of submergence area of the Indira Sagar Dam.
NBA spokesperson Chitrupa Palit told reporters here today that the evidence would be presented before the Madhya Pradesh High Court on November 22 when the matter would be heard.
She demanded that compensation for these houses be calculated at the present rate so that the displaced get relief.
''These houses are situated in back water and Full Reservoir Level (FRL) area of the dam and even the district administration had admitted that these houses can come under the submergence zone,'' said Ms Palit.
Alleging that the state government was working against the interests of dam-affected people, she said court directives for the welfare of people were not being adhered to.
The NBA spokesperson said it was an irony that though the Narmada Hydral Development Corporation earned a profit after tax of Rs 450 crore last year, the displaced were being deprived of appropriate compensation.
She demanded adequate compensation and rehabilitation for the displaced.
