Ranchi, Nov 19 (UNI) CPI(Maoist) ultras triggered a blast damaging a market complex in Palamu and also disrupted loading of minerals in various parts of Jharkhand during the first day of a two-day bandh called by the outfit in protest against Nandigram massacre.
The bandh which would continue till tomorrow midnight would be effective in West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, and Jharkhand.
Report from Palamu district said that about 60 armed ultras last night went to Mahudand village under Hussainabad sub-division and detonated dynamite at the newly constructed market place damaging three rooms.
Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Verma today confirmed the incident adding security forces had been sent to the site of occurrence.
It was suspected that the ultras might have planted land mines in the surrounding area and the police were awaiting equipment to detect those.
In Loherdega, the loading of bauxite came to halt in the wake of bandh.
In other areas including Chatra, Bokaro, Giridih and Hazaribagh the bus stands wore a deserted look as long distances buses did not ply.
Director General of Police(DGP) Vishnu Dayal Ram yesterday said elaborate arrangements had been made throughout the state to thwart any untoward incident during the bandh.
Special direction had been given to the SPs of the bordering areas to maintain a strong vigil.
Official sources said railway authorities were asked to cancel or re-direct certain trains running on the Coal India Company(CIC) section.
