Somnath thanks Laos for India's candidature in UNSC

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today expressed gratitude to Laos for its support to India's candidature for a permanent membership in the United Nation (UN) Security Council and for UN reforms.

He said India is very keen on providing help for the restoration of the most sacred religious site, the temple site of Wat Phu Champasak in southern Laos.

The Speaker also invited the Laos Ambassador Ly Bounkham to visit the Parliament Museum, which depicts the evolution of democracy in India.

Earlier, Mr Bounkham called on mr Chatterjee in the House.

Welcoming the guest Mr Chatterjee said India has high admiration and a sense of affinity towards Laos.

He said there is a lot of scope for mutual co-operation in many areas.

Mr Bounkham also extended an invitation to Mr Chatterjee from the President of the National Assembly of the Lao Democratic Republic He also mentioned about the trilateral highway project which is aimed at providing better linking between the Asian countries.
