Recruit tehsildars where needed, says EC

Dharamshala, Nov 19 (UNI) The Election Commission has directed the Himachal Pradesh Government to fill the posts of tehsildars where ever they were lying vacant in Kangra district since they perform the duty of assistant returning officers (AROs) during elections.

The Commission issued the directions during a meeting held here yesterday to review the arrangements for the second phase of polling on December 19.

The Kangra DC told the commission that the issue of appointing tehsildars had already been taken up with Revenue Secretary Prem Kumar and the appointments would be made soon.

Meanwhile the EC secretary K F Wilfred has started imparting training to Kangra and Chamba officials, including the returning officers and assistant returning officers, on holding elections in their respective districts.
