Govt issues order for formation of Ariyalur
Chennai, Nov 19 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today issued an order for the formation of Ariyalur as a new district by bifurcating Perambalur.
This followed an announcement to this effect made by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the floor of the Assembly on July 25 last year.
''Based on the announcement and keeping in view the wishes of the local people as well as on administrative grounds, the Government decided to form a new district with headquarters at Ariyalur'', the G O said.
The new Ariyalur district would start functioning with effect from November 23, it added.
It said the Perambalur district would be reorganised and bifurcated into Perambalur district with headquarters at Perambalur consisting of one Revenue Division of Perambalur and three taluks of Perambalur, Kunnam and Veppanthattai, and Ariyalur district with headquarters at Ariyalur consisting of two Revenue Divisions of Ariyalur and Udayarpalayam and three taluks of Ariyalur, Udayarpalayam and Sendurai.
