Ghadei presents supplementary budget for 2007-2008

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 (UNI) Orissa Finance Minister P C Ghadei today presented supplementary budget of Rs 3737.73 crore for 2007-08 for the approval of the Assembly amidst furore and shouting slogans by the opposition members.

Briefing newsmen Mr Ghadei said while a budget provision of Rs 2518.61 crore had been made in the budget for the plan sector a sum of Rs 1300.69 crore had been earmarked for the capital investment sector.

The Finance Minister hoped that the higher budgetary allocation for plan sector would help in achieving higher economy in the state.

He said the supplementary budget for the current year was more in comparison to the previous two years. While a budgetary allocation of Rs 3654.23 crore was made in the 2006-07, the supplementary budget for 2005-06 was 2020.28 crore.

Mr Ghadei said importance had been given on the development works and additional fund was allocated to expedite the development process.

The need for additional funds arose to meet the expenditure on the government's announcement to give six per cent additional DA to the employees, pay DA to employees of private aided schools, hike in house rent, special monthly allowance of Rs 100 to jail employees, Rs 50,000 ex-gratia to the family of those killed in lightning, additional expenditure for the implementation of Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana.

The Finance Minister said the government hoped to raise its resources from the collection of tax, its share from the centre and debt written off by the union government due to good financial management, external project and loan from the NABARD.
