Vellore, Nov 18: The Tamil Nadu unit of the CPI-M today demanded that the Centre should intervene and prevent the Andhra Pradesh Government from constructing the proposed dam across river Palar, which flows through three district of Velur, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.
A resolution to this effect was passed at the party's district level conference here. The resolution also demanded that the Centre intervene immediately to bring about a solution to safeguard the farmers in these districts.
It also demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should invite Chief Ministers of both the states to conduct talks for settling the issue.
In another resolution the party demaned that the Tamil Nadu Government should set up industries in Vellore as it was an important junction linking Chennai and Bangalore. The goverment should create employment opportunities for educated youth by setting up industrial parks.
The party also demanded that the government must take steps to reopen the cooperative spinning mills at Aryur near Vellore.
