Azad pays homage to Indira Gandhi on her 90th birth anniversary

Jammu, Nov 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today paid tribute to late prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 90th birth anniversary.

In a message, Mr Azad highlighted the contribution of the former prime minister in nation-building and development of India as a strong and influential country.

''Indira Gandhi took path-breaking initiatives which resulted in the country taking a big leap in science and technological advancement and attaining self sufficiency,'' Mr Azad said, adding that she acquired formidable international reputation as a leader and was gifted with extraordinary skills, making her the best known woman of the 20th century.

The Chief Minister, however, said Indira Gandhi was concerned about the plight of the weaker sections and minorities and worked for their uplift, ''Her aim was to build a strong India where people of all communities had equal opportunities to progress,'' he added.
