AP Govt takes steps to curb migration of poor

Hyderabad, Nov 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Rural Development Minister G Chinna Reddy today said the State Government was taking all steps to curb the migration of poor from drought-hit Mahaboob Nagar district.

In reply to a question by MLC Dr K Nageshwar during the Question Hour, Mr Reddy said the Government has taken up afforestation programme, horticulture scheme in 25,000 acres of land to provide livelihoods to the poor.

Stating that the Government had paid Rs 125 crore as wages to the poor under Employment Guarantee schemes, he said the pending irrigation project works were also taken up to provide water to all drylands owned by the poor in the district.

Watershed development programme was also given priority to provide job opportunities, Mr Reddy said adding that the rate of migration was declined since three years as the State was receiving sufficient rains.
