By Staff

Bangalore, Nov 19: Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj today called for support from the corporate sector for promotion of tennis in the country.

Speaking after kicking off the Good Earth Super Series National Junior Tennis tournament here, he said ''there is sufficient talent available in the country but need of the hour is to pick up the budding players and nourish them in proper way, for which sponsorship from corporate sector is very badly needed.'' The main draw of the round four began here today with a total of 128 players - 32 in each category of under-14 and under-16 - from all over the country vying for the top honour. The finals are slated for November 23.

The Good Earth Super Series was the first long term initiative of its kind, started to create better and higher quality competition for junior tennis players.

The first three rounds were held in Chennai, Hyderabad and New Delhi and fifth round would be take place in Mumbai from December 24 before the grand finale in January 2008.

Akin to the 'ATP Masters' the grand finale will have the top eight players from each age group competing for the ultimate honour of becoming the Good Earth Super Series Champion 2007.

The prizes would include a fully sponsored three-week tennis training camp in France followed by four tournaments in their respective age groups across Europe.
