Vadodara, Nov 18 (UNI) Hosts Vadodara crushed last year's runners-up Bengal by an innings and 59 runs bundling the latter out for a paltry 86 runs in their second innings on the fourth and final day of their Ranji Trophy Elite group 'B' match at the Motibaug Palace ground here today.
Vadodara, who had taken the driver's seat having gained a huge 145-run first innings lead toiled for only a couple of hours this morning to shut out the under pressure opponents for a facile innings victory.
With this resounding victory in their opening Ranji tie, Vadodara took their points tally to six with one bonus point.
Bengal had earlier picked up three points against Hyderabad by virtue of their first innings lead.
Vadodara all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who helped the side take the 145-run first innings lead with a five-wicket haul and a scintilating knock of 183 from 150 balls, demolished the Bengal second innings again with his deadly off-spin as he returned with a match figure of 10 for 119 runs.
While Pathan, bowling with full steam, claimed five Bengal wickets in the second innings , including that of Anustup (0), Arindam Das (6), Manoj Tiwary (0) and wicket keeper Wriddhiman Shah (45), for 36 runs in his 19.4 overs spell, leggie Rajesh Pawar snared four wickets conceding only 23 runs in his 16 overs.
The visitors, who were trailing by 144 runs with 9 wickets in hand having lost opener Anustup Majumdar with 1 run on the board yesterday, today resumed in a disastrous manner.
Being unable to withstand the double spin attack of Pathan and Pawar with an attacking close fielding set, Bengal crashed to 13 for five wickets in the 13th over.
Barring wicket-keeper Shah, who top-scored with 45 from 118 balls and Rana Chowdhary (23, 49b), none of the Bengal batsmen could reach double figures and the side folded up the second innings at 86, twenty minutes after lunch.
