School children to take oath to preserve country's heritage

New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) Union Culture Ministry has decided to involve school children in its campaign against vandalisation of historic monuments.

As part of the initiative school going children in the city will be administered oath at Red Fort tomorrow to mark the World Heritage Week, commencing from November 29.

The week is observed to raise awareness about the rich cultural heritage of the country among general masses and school children.

Union Culture Minister Ambika Soni said schools will be requested to take the children to at least one monuments in their vicinities during the week and administer oath to the children in the school premises.

The children would pledge not to scribble or deface or encroach upon any monument, respect the country's heritage and render all possible help to conserve it.

The schools will be organising contests in painting, debates, essay, cultural programmes, talks on preservation of monuments in their respective circles and undertake guided tours for their students.

Students will be administered similar oath every year marking the observation of the week.
