PSB thrash NE XI 8-2, qualify for Nehru hockey Super League

New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) Riding on Vikramjit Singh's three strikes, Punjab and Sind Bank thrashed North East XI (Assam) 8-2 to qualify for Super League of the 44th Nehru Hockey tournament here today.

Vikramjit scored in the 10th, 32nd and 47th minutes while team-mates Sarvanjit Singh (7th), Parminder Singh (31st), Gurvinder Singh (64th), Navpreet Singh (65th) and Kulwinder Singh (70th) found the target once.

For the North East side, Barna Das Barla (8th) and Helendro Singh (33rd) were the goal getters.

In other preliminary round matches, Border Security Force blanked Western Railway 3-0 and IHF (Under 21) downed Karnataka XI 2-1.

For BSF, Amrit Lakra (10th), Marinus Lakra (65th) and Sarabraj Singh (70th) scored once each.

Pramod Kumar put IHF ahead in the seventh minute only to be restored parity by Anup Anthony in the 18th minute in a keenly contested match.

Jagwant Singh scored the winning goal at the stroke of half time (35th).
