Mayawati govt 'anti-farmer' in UP: SP
Lucknow, Nov 18: Main opposition in Uttar Pradesh assembly Samajwadi Party (SP) today lambasted the Mayawati led-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government for being 'anti-farmer'.
''Ms Mayawati is hatching a conspiracy to make the state farmers indbted...they are being forced to leave agriculture and become labourers,'' UP SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary today alleged.
''The state government is hand-in-glove with the sugar mills...Cane prices of last crushing season was still lying pending,'' Mr Chaudhary maintained.
''The poor farmers are facing financial hardships, as the sugar mills are still not working...besides, increment in the production cost this year, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) was kept equivalent to last year by the government,'' he observed.
''The standing cane crop has further delayed wheat production in the state. All this is affecting the state farmers severely,'' he underlined.
