Malaysian pair claim Masters table soccer doubles title

Chandigarh, Nov 18 (UNI) Malaysian pair of Mohd Zaiham and Jimmy claimed the open doubles title beating Arshad and Ankur of India by 5-2, 5-4, 5-1 in the final of the India Open International Masters Series 2007 Table Soccer Championship here today.

The Indian pairs of Ashish and Ankit, Gurpreet Singh anbd Arjun and Gagan Chawala and Rahul got third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Jyoti Kaushik of India beat Tarandeep Kaur by 5-0, 5-2 in the all-India girls singles final. Simran bagged the third position.

Belgium's Koen defeated Zaiham of Malaysia in the open singles final. Amritpal and Pawandeep of India emerged winners in the doubles by defeating Amanpreet and Antarpreet. The Under-17 singles title went to Devesh Singhal of India.

Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal distributed the prizes.

Among those present on the occasion were Ravinder Talwar, chairman Table Soccer Federation of India, President Chandigarh Youth Congress HS Lucky, General Secretary CYC Babla Banyan Tree Principal Ritu Mahajan and Vice Principal Jyoti Ashija and TSFI President Balwinder Singh Johl.

Results: Under-17 singles: 1 Devesh Singhal (Ind), 2 Harvinder (Ind), 3 Mahinder (Ind), 4 Aman (Ind), 5 Madhav Rajpal.

Doubles: 1 Amritpal and Pawandeep, 2 Amanpreet and Antarpreet, 3 Varinder Singh and Jaiveer, 4 Jeevan and Manveer, 5 Vikrant and Geetansh Rao.

Open singles: Koen (Belgium), 2 Zaiham (Malaysia), 3 Jyoti Kaushil (India), 4 Tarsem Nair (Inida), 5 Arshad (India).

Open doubles: 1 Zaiham and Jimmy (Mal), 2 Arshad and Ankur (India), 3 Ashish and Ankit (India), 4 Gurpreet Singh and Arjun (Ind), 5 Gagan Chawla and Rahul (Ind).

Girls singles: 1 Jyoti Kaushik (India), 2 Tarandeep, 3 Simran (India).
