Goa post 110-run first innings lead over Railways, gains 3 pts

Margao, Nov 18 (UNI) Hosts Goa had to be content with three points after gaining 110 - runs first innings lead over Railways, after the four-day Ranji Plate 'B' criket match ended in a tame draw on the last day at MCC ground here today.

Railways chasing to surpass Goa total of 535 managed to score only 425 on the strength of Mahesh Rawat (96) and Karan Sharma (70) before they were all out in 152.1 overs and Goa gained a 110-run first innings lead.

The umpires called off play after both the captains agreed to a draw at the start of the mandatory overs when Goa were 53 for 2 in 23 overs in their second innings with J Arun Kumar (26) and Aditya Angle (20) remaining not out.

Goa took their points tally to eight while Railways increased their tally to seven points from two matches.

Earlier the visitors, resuming at the overnight score of 291 for 5 with Mahesh Rawat (83) and Karan Sharma (12), kept the score board moving. Rawat, who was shaping well, lost his cool when he was caught by Shadab Jakati off the bowling of Robin D Souza on 96 which included 15 fours that came off 220 balls. The duo added 82 runs for the sixth wicket raising their total to 348 for 6.

Later, wickets fell at regular intervals and the visitors folded their innings on a total score of 425 all out in 152.1 overs, 54 minutes after lunch. Karan Sharma remained not out on 70 that was laced with 12 hits to the fence and came off 165 balls.

Robin D'Souza and Sahil Dhuri were the most successful bowlers for the hosts, claiming three and two wickets each giving away 60 and 30 runs respectively.
