Two AIADMK workers hacked to death

Chengalpattu, Nov 17: A functionary of the Opposition AIADMK and his assistant were hacked to death in broad daylight by a ten member armed gang at Timmavaram village near here, in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu today.

The deceased were identified as AIADMK Chengalpattu town Secretary and Chengalpattu Municipality Vice-chairman Kumar alias ''Kurangu'' Kumar (44) and his assistant Arumugam (38).

Kumar and Arumugam were on their way to Kancheepuram in a Scorpio car when the gang, tailing them in a van, waylaid and attacked the duo with lethal weapons. Both of them sustained muiltiple cut injuries all over the body and died inside the car itself.

Top police officials, including Kancheepuram District Superintendent of Police Periaiah, Chengalpattu DSP Senthil Kumar rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the government hospital.

As the news spread, AIADMK workers and party functionaries rushed to the spot. Tension prevailed in the area following the double murder and police pickets were posted in the area.

All the shopkeepers downed their shutters and police have strengthened the check posts to nab the culprits. Political rivalry was stated to be the reason for the killings.
