Puducherry, Nov 17: With the administration agreeing to look into their demands, the agitating prisoners at the Central Prison called off their indefinite fast last night.
Tahzildar Yaswanthiah had held talks with the jail birds and assured them to look into their demands.
The prisoners were on a fast to protest against the restrictions imposed on them, following the alleged smuggling of cell phones into the prison alongwith eatables.
They were also irritated over Jail Superintendent Jayakanthan, who was allegedly torturing the prisoners who deposed against him before the Venugopal Commission in connection with the death of three prisoners after consuming liquor laced with poison, found in the jail premises, in 2005.
All the 24 convicts admitted to the Government General Hospital, were discharged last evening.
