New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) The Congress today cast aside its more than 50 years old stipulation for entry into the Party as it reintroduced single category of membership.
From now on, the Congress will have only one category of member and the provision of active member has been deleted, a Resolution passed at the AICC session here, amending the Party's Constitution said.
Till now, there were two categories to members-- primary and active.
The single category of member was prevalent till the 1950s.
According to another amendment, only those who have been members of the Party for three years continuously and who pay a fee of Rs 100 will be eligible to become a delegate or an office bearer in any Congress committee except the primary polling booth committee.
The existing Subjects Committee has been replaced by an extended Working Committee comprising the AICC President, members of the Working Committee, special invitees and permanent invitees of working committees, all PCC presidents, CLP leaders, all frontal organisation chiefs, the INTUC president, office bearers of the CLP and the chairman of the North Eastern Coordination Committee.
The Party Constitution will be applicable for all the States except the North Eastern States which will have the option to have a separate Constitution for their PCC subject to the approval of the AICC Working Committee.
