Aizawl, Nov 17 (UNI) The National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) concluded a one-day Northeast-level regional conference here yesterday.
The conference carried out a collective study into the problems and prospects of the corporation and benefits accruing to the tribals under the scheme were discussed at length during the conference.
Future strategies for the development and upliftment of the tribals of Northeast India were high on the agenda of this 2nd regional conference. Delegates of tribals from the Northeast states attended the conference.
Established under the ministry of tribal affairs in April 2001, the NSTFDC is designed to mobilise the tribals in India from their wretched conditions. Moreover, it is also responsible for the uplift of the underprivileged people among the tribals. The corporation was given Rs 500 crores for its establishment and presently, there are four zonal offices in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati leh Hyderabad with its headquarters in New Delhi.
A tribal family, whose annual income is below Rs 39,500 for rural areas and Rs 54,500 for urban areas, can avail loans under NSTFDC.
The meeting was also attended by finance commissioner Lalmalsawma, IAS, from the Mizoram government.
