Lucknow, Nov 17 (UNI) Terming the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government in Uttar Pradesh as 'anti-farmer', the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) today claimed the Noida-Ballia Ganga Expressway Highway Project would ruin the state farmers.
''Ms Mayawati claims to be working for the welfare of farmers. The fact remains her government is no less than an enemy of farmers and comman-man,'' UP RLD president Ram Asrey Verma today alleged.
''The state government is acquiring the agricultural land of poor farmers at a low price and giving it to industrialists for the Ganga Expressway Highway Project,'' Mr Verma claimed.
''Sugar mills are not working, which has further forced the farmers to set afire their standing sugarcane crop,'' he maintained.
The government was not working as per its slogan of 'Sarvajan Hitaye, Sarvajan Sukhaye' (welfare and benefit of all),' but for 'Niji Hitaye, Niji Sukhaye' (personal benefit and favour), he added.
Mr Verma informed that a farmers' panchayat would be held on November 19 to formulate an action plan against the government's ''anti-farmer'' attitude.
