Haryana smell outright victory against Jharkhand

By Staff

Jamshedpur, Nov 17 (UNI) Haryana were in the driver's seat after skittling Jharkhand for 205 all out in the first innings and piled up 286 for six to take an overall 354 runs lead on the penultimate day of the four-day Ranji trophy plate group B leage match at the Keenan stadium here today.

Resuming at overnight 179 for six not out batsman Sunny Gupta could add only one run to become the victim of medium pacer Sachin Rana for 51. But Shahbaz Nadeem (overnight 39 not out) completed his half century before Rana rattled his stumps for 57 which consisted of seven boundaries.

Rana scalped three wickets for 24 while another wicket was taken by Sanjay Budhwar.

After taking 68 runs first innings lead, Haryana openers Vishal Sahni and Mithun Beerala gave a flying start to the visitor's innings and put 101 runs in the opening stand. Soon after reaching his half century Sahni was run out for 54 which was made with the help of three fours and one towering six.

Beerala, who was batting confidently in the other end, however, misjudged a delivery of left arm spinner Nadeem and was clean bowled for 75, studded with eleven boundaires and a hit over the ropes.

Sumit Sharma, who came after the dismissal of Sahni, also compiled a solid 63 with the help of nine hit to the fence.

The visitors saw a mini collpase in the middle when Nadeem notched up two quck wickets in the form of S Viswanathan (6) and Sachin Rana (3).

But a 56 runs seventh wicket stand between Joginder Sharma (48) and captain Amit Mishra (27 not out) put Haryana in a strong position.

Joginder's quickfire 48 came off 42 balls with two fours and one huge six. He missed the half century and was run out in a bid to take a quick single.

Umpires called off the day's play after Sharma was out.

Nadeem took three wickets for 61 while the other wicket was grabbed by Arun Vidyarthi.
