Varanasi, Nov 17 (UNI) Dala Chhath celebrations concluded with thousands of women devotees taking dip in holy river Ganga and offerring prayers to the sun god here.
A huge rush of fasting women devotees converged on various ghats singing folk songs. After taking bath in the river, they offered 'Gangajal' to the sun.
Last evening also, the devotees had worshipped the setting sun on several ghats.
As per religious belief, the women folk observe fast and offer prayers to the setting and rising sun for the longevity and prosperty of their husbands, sons and relatives on the Chhath.
The women, dressed in new attire, observed 36 hour fast, which they broke only after offering prayer to the rising sun today.
Celebration of Dala Chhath had also been reported from several Eastern UP districts, including Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ghazipur, Ballia, Jaunpur and Chandauli.
Police administration had made tight security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident on the occasion.
Restriction was also imposed on the vehicular movement of traffic on different routes leading to the banks of the Ganga.
