New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) Declaring its firm resolve to abide by the 'coalition dharma,' the AICC led by its President Sonia Gandhi today expressed its determination not to cede the political space even to its allies in its quest for seeking a clear majority in the next Lok Sabha elections to form a government on its own.

In her address to the one-day AICC session that marked the formal launching of her son Rahul Gandhi as party's youth icon, Ms Gandhi attacked the BJP for its 'disruptive politics'and asked the party cadres to pull up their socks to dislodge the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat ''which has launched sustained assault on Gandhian ideas, ideals and institutions''.

The crucial session, being held a day after the UPA government secured the go-ahead from the Left parties to discuss an India-specific Safeguards agreement with the IAEA to operationalise the Indo-US nuclear deal, was a business-like affair with nearly 2,200 delegates hearing with rapt attention the speeches of Ms Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi.

In an 'omnibus resolution,' the AICC discussed the political, economic and international situation, while adopting three other special resolutions on 150th anniversary of India's First War of Independence, 60th anniversary of Indian independence and centenary of Satyagraha.

In her 45-minute fiery speech, the Congress president was highly critical of the 'stubbornly uncooperative' attitude of the BJP in Parliament.

"No words are strong enough to condemn the BJP's attack on our Prime Minister and our Party," she said, adding that "unlike the BJP-led NDA, the UPA government had again and again offered the opportunity for debate and discussion on issues of public importance. Nevertheless, the BJP and its allies continue to be obstructive. However, we have not been deterred. We are determined to redeem our pledges." More UNI
