Singapore invites Special UN envoy on Myanmar

Singapore, Nov 16 (UNI) Singapore has invited UN Secretary-General's Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari to brief the leaders of the East Asia Summit (EAS) about the situation in Myanmar here on November 21.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong informed UN Secretary-General Mr Ban Ki-Moon about this move over the phone yesterday.

Mr Ban expressed appreciation for Mr Lee's invitation and agreed that it would be of benefit for Mr Gambari to brief the EAS leaders, a statement from Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry said today.

The two leaders also had a general discussion on recent developments in Myanmar, the statement added.

Singapore is hosting one of the largest Asian leaders' and the ASEAN Summit conference from Sunday.
