Ranchi, Nov 16 (UNI) People today took a holy dip in ponds and rivulets here and offered ''Arghya'' to the setting sun, on the occasion of 'Chhath'.
Dressed in colourful attire, people thronged the Badatalab, Nakashtra Van, Harmur and Zumar rivers and ponds to perform ''Arghya''.
Special prayers would be offered at the Sun temple located in Bundu block about 40 km from here.
Governor Syed Sibte Razi and Chief Minister Madhu Koda in their messages congratulated the people.
Police said security had been beefed up and district police superintendents were directed to take preventive measures to avoid any untoward incident.
The festival of 'Sun god' began with the 'Nahay Khaya' on November 13 and will culminate tomorrow with paying obeisance to the rising Sun.
