Jammu and Kashmir dismissed for 86 in 48.2 overs

By Staff

Patiala, Nov 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir were skittled out for a paltry 86 in 48.2 overs against the formidable Punjab outfit on the opening day of the three-day tie in the Inter-State Cricket tournament (Under-15) for Polly Umrigar Trophy here today at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium.

Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. The J and K batsmen could not withstand the penetrative Punjab bowling and fell cheaply at regular intervals. Only Siddharth Sharma and Siddharth Gupta played cautious innings of 23 runs apiece, but that was not enough to bother Punjab as the innings folded at 86 runs.

For Punjab, Vinay Chowdhary bowled superbly to bag five for 15, while Arjun Kumar was not far behind, capturing three wickets for mere eight runs.

In reply, Punjab were 177 for wo in 50 overs at the draw of stumps. Arjun Kumar played a splendid knock of 62, which contained seven fours, and Ankit Parsharthi was unbeaten on 79, which comprised six fours. Giving him company is Mohit, who is eight not out.

For J and K, Zafar Nishan and Basith Mohammad, captured one wicket each, giving away 54 and 28 runs respectively. J and K faces innings defeat on the penultimate day unless a miracle happens to pull them out from total disaster.
