Kolkata, Nov 16 (UNI) The India Cricket League (ICL)'s Kolakta Tigers got off to a sedate start to their camp under a grey sky and with a clogged bowling machine.
The CC&FC ground that forms the venue of the conditioning camp that will last till November 22, was a green spectacle. But cyclone SIDR's splinter effects had made the turf a little soggy making bowling impossible and fielding practice limited.
To make matters worse the bowling machine choked, resulting in coach Daryll Cullinan, assistant coach Pranab Roy and physio Andrew Shedlock bowling at the nets in turn.
While darren maddy was the only foreign recruit to practice today, Lance Klusenar, Boyd Rankin and Craig McMillan along with Upul Chandana are supposed to get underway tomorrow.
Meanwhile former Bengal Ranji and Indian cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Rohan gavaskar, along with their Bengal teammates Subhomoy Das and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala had longish batting sessions.
Meanwhile, CC&FC President Noomi Mehta made it clear that the club had no problems with their practice sessions. The players even sported the ICL logo.
''Essell is our corporate member. So what problems can we have,'' he said.
On the threats from some of the ruling office-bearers of CAB of disaffiliating them and stopping their grants if ICL was allowed to play here, he said, ''I had made it clear to CAB President Prasun Mukherjee that no ICL matches will be played here. But they will have their camp here. He was okay. Now some people were giving is tongue lashing'' ''I have only one thing to say. We have a tradition of over two centuries. If there are threats we will go back to our traditions and be happy with promoting cricket. As for grant of Rs 20,000 is concerned, we have our club cricket with a budget of Rs 15 lakhs.''
