Ahmedabad, Nov 16 (UNI) Powered by two century knocks by captain Parthiv Patel (158) and an unbeaten 102 by B D Thaker, hosts Gujarat are comfortably placed at 380 for five in their first innings in reply to visiting Tripura's 1st innings score of 116 at close of second day of the 4-day plate division Ranji Trophy match at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium here today.
With two more days to go, Gujarat with surplus of 264 runs and five wickets still in hand are all set to gain an outright innings' victory against the weak Tripura side.
Yesterday's overnight unbeaten pair of Parthiv (48) and Niraj Patel (11) made 3rd wicket century partnership stand before the latter got out at team's total of 138 runs. Niraj was brilliantly stumped by Dutta off bowling of Saha when the batsman misread the line and length of the ball. He had made 42 runs in 105 balls with 7 boundaries.
The next batsman B D Thaker and well settled Parthiv took total control of the bowling of Tripura to add a massive 155 runs for the 4th wicket partnership between them to consolidate the Gujarat position further.
At the score of 293, Parthiv missed a line of another good delivery of Saha to be adjudged LBw with his individual score on 158 In his long innings of 361 minutes, Parthiv faced 258 balls and hit as many as 17 hits to the ropes. He was second victim of Saha.
When stumps were drawn, Thaker and Timil Patel were at the crease with their personal scores on 102 and 1, respectively.
For Tripura, T S Saha and T K Chanda were most successful bowlers with two wickets each. The other successful bowler was N S Shetty, who took one wicket.
