Akbar Padamsee to be conferred ''Dayawati Modi Award''

New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) Akbar Padamsee, the pioneer of comtemporary Indian art, will be conferred upon the prestigious ''Dayawati Modi Award'' for Art, Culture and Education, 2007.

Akbar Padamsee, 79, has a magisterial presence in the domain of post-colonial Indian art. His works evade categorisation. Tha act of ''Mark Making'' is the key element in his works.

Although he is best known as a painter, the most familiar of his works are the ''metascapes'' ''mirror images'' (non-figurative), the figures and ''heads''.

His painting has been exhibited in important shows organised by IIFA and Tao Art Gallery, namely - Power of Peace for UNESCO in Bali, Indiart at the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo and House of Lords, London.

The award will be presented by the Dayawati Modi Foundation tomorrow.
